I was rather proud of this. I submitted this to a collection of “100 word stories” which had a strange optional rule: NO word was to be used more than once. This took a while to write, and I am not sure if I got accepted or rejected because the collection was never published:

Sounds of many distant yowlings faded as Latte’s travel crate dangled at her rescuer’s side. Destiny for adult felines is never assured when taken from an abusive overpopulated situation, then placed via fostering. Will she be adopted, or left to spend remaining life being prisoner in some “no kill” ranch, trapped behind hurricane fencing, missing twenty hoarded siblings once slept against; keeping warm and content? Two meals per day, loving attention only one hour daily with other unknown cats?

Happily not so. The future holds bright things regarding this purring Siamese. She has been adopted by my loving, happy family.

I used a lot of bash/GNU tools to make sure I did it right:

$ wc -w 'cat_100_word_story.txt'
100 cat_100_word_story.txt

$ sed 's/ /\n/g' cat_100_word_story.txt | sort | grep -v "^$" | uniq -c
